Anfrage: Dürfen in Diözesen, in denen es erlaubt ist, die Kommunion in die Hände der Gläubigen auszuteilen, der Priester oder die außerordentlichen Spender der Heiligen Kommunion die Kommunionempfänger in der Weise einschränken, dass diese die Kommunion nur in die Hände empfangen (können), jedoch nicht auf die Zunge?

Antwort: Aus den Dokumenten des Heiligen Stuhls ist jedenfalls klar, dass in Diözesen, wo das eucharistische Brot in die Hände der Gläubigen gelegt wird, das Recht, das eucharistische Brot auf die Zunge (gelegt) zu erhalten, für die Gläubigen aufrecht bleibt. Darum handeln jene, die die Kommunionempfänger in der Weise einschränken, dass diese die Heilige Kommunion nur in die Hände empfangen (können), gegen die Normen, ebenso wie jene, welche den Christgläubigen das Recht verwehren, die Kommunion in die Hand zu empfangen – in den Diözesen, die dieses Indult erhalten haben.

In Beachtung der Normen, welche die Spendung der Heiligen Kommunion betreffen, sollen ordentliche und außerordentliche Spender dafür in besonderer Weise Sorge tragen, dass die Hostie sofort von den Christgläubigen zu sich genommen wird, sodass niemand mit der eucharistischen Gestalt in der Hand fortgeht.

Alle sollen jedoch daran erinnert werden, dass die ehrwürdige Tradition jene ist, die Hostie auf die Zunge zu empfangen. Der zelebrierende Priester darf den Christgläubigen die Kommunion nicht in die Hand geben, wenn die Gefahr eines Sakrilegs gegeben ist, und er soll diese über den Grund für diese Vorgehensweise unterrichten.

Query: Whether in dioceses where it is allowed to distribute Communion in the hands of the faithful, a priest or extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion may restrict communicants to receive Communion only in their hands, not on the tongue.

Response: Certainly it is clear from the very documents of the Holy See that in dioceses where the Eucharistic bread is put in the hands of the faithful, the right to receive the Eucharistic bread on the tongue still remains intact to the faithful. Therefore, those who restrict communicants to receive Holy Communion only on in the hands are acting against the norms, as are those who refuse to Christ‘s faithful [the right] to receive Communion in the hand in dioceses that enjoy this indult.

With attention to the norms concerning the distribution of Holy Communion, ordinary and extraordinary ministers should take care in a particular way that the host is consumed at once by Christ‘s faithful, so that no one goes away with the Eucharistic species in his hand.

However, let all all remember that the time-honored tradition is to receive the host on the tongue. The celebrant priest, if there is a present danger of sacrilege, should not give the faithful communion in the hand, and he should make them aware of the reason for way of proceeding.
